Carpet Remove - Removal of old carpeting

Instructional Videos Below

Carpet Remove - Carpet removal may be one of the first projects you will encounter when flipping houses and there are proper ways to do this both quickly and safely.

The first thing you want to do is get a pair of gloves, because the tack strip used to keep the carpet streched has very sharp tacks.

Pry up one corner using a pair of pliers. Cut your carpet with a sharp utility knife into small strips that will be easier to dispose of. Remove each strip after pulling off the tack strips with your pliers. Roll up each strip and dispose of into a garbage recepticle or the tail gate of a pick-up truck for removal to the dump. On large projects, it is advisable to rent a dumpster bin so you can fill it at the work site and then have it picked up for removal.

The next step is to remove the padding in the same manner, however, this will be much easier because the pad is not as hevey as the carpet itself.

After the padding has been removed, it's time to pry up those tack strips and any adhesive that may be left behind. A small pry bar works well or the claw of a hammer will work as well. For the glue, you may scrap it off or use a solvent.

After everything is removed sweep or vaccuum with a shop vac to get the surface ready for what ever type of flooring you are going to do.
