Taping Drywall - How to Tape and Float Drywall

How to tape and float drywall - Taping and floating (or mudding) drywall can be a daunting task to the beginner but with proper instruction and a bit of elbow grease, it can be a rewarding project.

As with any project, having the proper tools for the project is very important. You will need tape which is available in the paper or mesh varieties. In the instructional video below, the mesh type will be used and is the type I would recommend as well. You will also need a 3" to 6" steel knife for spreading your joint compound. Please avoid the plastic variety as you will not get the same flexibility. You will also need the mud or joint compound that is available pre-mixed in everything from a quart for small repair projects to the 5 gallon bucket that is typical of entire room projects. A good joint compound tray is also a good investment so you can properly distribute the compound and not work directly out of the bucket. Lastly, you will need sand paper in both 100 and 220 grit.
